Rules are posted in most classrooms in this country. When a student breaks a rule, the natural approach is to enforce the rule. This mindset immediately places the teacher in an enforcement and adversarial role of a police officer. In contrast, when teachers rely on procedures, the mindset is to reteach the procedure—rather than to punish the student.

Relying on rules is just one of many counterproductive approaches used in classrooms.

Your contribution will help to significantly improve education by reducing coercive approaches. Please help teachers learn how to use authority without coercion.
